Founded in 2016 by composers Missy Mazzoli and Ellen Reid, Luna Composition Lab provides mentorship, education, and resources for young female, nonbinary, and gender-nonconforming composers ages 13-18. Luna Composition Lab is the only initiative of its kind in the United States. It has achieved national recognition as a program that not only celebrates underrepresented voices but also shapes music’s future by providing a support system for continued success.

Carolina Bragg is a composer from Massachusetts and recent graduate of Bowdoin College with a B.A. in Biology. Her pieces have been performed in NYC, Houston, St. Louis, and San Francisco. In 2026, contemporary ensemble loadbang premiered “Shadows to Trust,” about Maine’s centuries-long logging history. For her climate-focused choral work “If Bees Are Few”, Carolina received the inaugural Tidal Shift Award at the Portland Museum of Art. Her first professional commission “bird of paradise” was written for the Friction Quartet and premiered on NPR’s From the Top in 2021. She is grateful to her mentors, who have included Reena Esmail, Alla Cohen, and Eugene Kim.
